NEW! These charming ladies are practicing the can can. The multicolor border: each color is individually hooked in about five loops. It’s not as scarey as it may look. I wanted a border but had only one inch of linen left to work with.

Fresh rug

It helps to see a photo of a rough draft for a new rug. This is a piece on commission and I can better see on this small image many flaws that I want to change. I will often take photos of a rug as I hook it. It always looks different the next day and in a small screen print.

Also, take a photo of your work in progress. Put the image into a photo program such as Picasa and convert the image to black and white. This helps you see what is going to stand out, what is highlighted and what needs to change.

This is an exeriment in fabrics–the tan is wool, the lush brown is a velvet; the deep bottle green is also velvet; the blue is silk.  I can imagine good uses forall of them in a landscape, clothing–paper dolls!–or other places.  Anyway, they are great fn to try. Keep your eye out for scraps.

This vintage velvet dress will be a wonderful experiment in hooking. The sheen is deep and rich. It will be a little sad to cut into it but, also sadly, it won’t fit me anyway!
