Cottages of Carmel

The enchanting, perfect little cottages of Carmel have inspired this next rug, which will be 3′ x 4′ and the closest thing I come to a “runner.” Each uniquely perfect house could grace any storybook. I can’t paint them. I can’t live in one. But I can hook them! And it’s a hoot putting litle dressed up animals on the path, as though they are going home, rendering them even more make believe. I hope to have this done in a few months and will share my progress.

Back to making totes

I make these 18″ x 20″ totes as carryalls for laptop rug-hooking frames. I use upholstery fabric, wool, cotton, and all sorts of odds and ends. They are fully lined with an additional sturdy bottom built in. Soon to be offered on my web site and in my catalog.

I am so enjoying hooking these animals in any colors I feel like. I’m having trouble deciding on the elephant’s skin tones though. Gray just didn’t cut it–blue was too similar to the lion’s hair. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
